Networks and telecom

People remember the network exactly once: when it fails. Until then it grows by itself - another switch bought, another cable pulled. We build in spare capacity so that nothing has to be redone from scratch a few years later, and we document it so a break can be located in minutes.

How the installation runs

The installation takes the least time. Most of the schedule goes on preparing the drawings beforehand and the certification testing afterwards.

01

We measure and design

We visit the site, study the layout and the structure of the floors and ceilings, and calculate the number of outlets for years ahead.

02

We agree it and price it

We present the cabling diagram and the purchase list. From it you can see how the figure is made up.

03

We install

We run the routes, install the rack with its equipment, terminate and label every link.

04

We test and hand over

We test every link with a certified tester and record the readings in the documentation. You get the diagram and the port mapping table.

You can only save on cabling once. Redoing the cable routes in an occupied space costs more than specifying a higher grade of cable and extra ports at the outset: the work has to happen at night and the decoration then has to be made good.

Backup link

The provider's line will fail sooner or later. The only question is whether anyone working will notice.

From an hour to a day One provider A small space where trade does not go through a website
15-30 minutes The second link switched by hand A company with an accounting database and mailboxes on its own hardware
Seconds Two providers with automatic failover Retail outlets, a warehouse complex, taking calls
Practically zero Two providers plus a mobile backup Workshops and several remote sites

Two lines from the same provider are not redundancy. As a rule they enter the building on the same cable and fail together. A backup only works when the second line belongs to a different company and is built differently: fibre paired with a radio link or mobile access.

Questions and answers

More often than not it does not help and sometimes makes things worse: devices on the same channels interfere with each other. The right approach is to walk the space with an instrument and place the access points so the network appears as one and moving between them goes unnoticed.

For workstations running the accounting system, for cameras, tills and printers, copper cabling is the better fit: the connection is steady and immune to interference. Wireless wins for laptops, phones and meeting rooms.

Yes. Dirty and noisy work is moved to evenings and weekends, and sections are switched over one at a time. A full stop is rarely needed, usually for two or three hours when the core equipment is replaced.

The cabling diagram, a labelled port table, the instrument test results for every link and a list of installed devices. With that set any competent engineer can find their way around your network without asking us.
