We measure the signal

We measure with the racks full rather than in an empty hangar: full rows change the picture entirely.

We hang the access points and run cable section by section while the rest of the warehouse keeps working.

We configure the handhelds and the sync against a copy of the database, and only then switch to the live one.

We train and support

We teach the warehouse staff to use the device and stay in touch through the first shifts, when questions are at their peak.

Connectivity has to be measured in a warehouse full of stock. With empty racks the figures look good but fall apart as soon as the rows are filled: cardboard and metal eat the signal. Rehanging the access points afterwards costs more than measuring under working conditions in the first place.

Questions and answers

As a rule the access points were hung by eye and each works on its own: moving between them makes the device reconnect and lose its session. The cure is measurement and configuring one shared network with seamless roaming. Adding another access point for good measure usually makes things worse.

If goods-in cannot be allowed to stop, then yes: local hardware does not depend on the link. A small warehouse tied into the central system is usually better off working over a link to head office or on rented capacity, but always with a backup connection.

It makes sense where stocktakes regularly disagree with the paperwork and items get mixed up. Handheld terminals remove manual keying and with it the main source of errors. But the first step has to be tidying the product catalogue: automating chaos costs more than clearing it up first.

Yes. We come out for the launch ourselves, then close most requests remotely and keep a person in the region under our direction for site visits. Requests still go to the shared desk rather than straight to them.
