Technical support and site maintenance

A site left unattended falls apart predictably: the engine fills with holes, the certificate nears expiry, the contact form quietly stops sending mail. The company usually learns of it from a client who could not submit an enquiry. Support exists so that call never comes.

What the work includes

The package consists of a predictable part - updates, backups, monitoring - and a reserve of hours for your own tasks.

Discuss the scope

Revisions

Texts, images, new pages, small changes within the agreed hours.

Updates

Platform, modules, environment. First on a copy, then on the live site.

Copies

Files and database daily, stored outside the server the site lives on.

Monitoring

Whether the site opens, how fast, when the domain and certificate expire, whether the form messages arrive.

Protection

We watch for file changes, close the admin area to outsiders and investigate unusual activity.

Report

What was done during the month, which updates were installed, how many hours were used.

How it goes

We start with a handover check: before taking responsibility for a site you have to know what state it came in.

01

Handover check

We check the site, the credentials, the backups and the updates. The current state is recorded in a document.

02

Clearing the backlog

We close the critical items: an ancient platform, missing backups, an admin area open to all.

03

Work

Edits, updates, monitoring, a monthly report.

04

Proposals

We look at the statistics and come with ideas rather than waiting to be given a task.

The domain and hosting must be registered to the company, not to the contractor or a former employee. This comes to light at the worst moment: the person has left, there are no credentials, nothing to renew with, and the site goes dark. It is worth checking who owns the domain today, not when the expiry notice arrives.

Questions and answers

A rarely changing site needs two to four hours a month. An active project with promotions and new sections needs eight or more. We start with the minimum and adjust after a couple of months based on actual usage.

Yes. Most break-ins come through long-known holes in outdated versions for which fixes were released a year ago. Updating is the cheapest protection there is.

We do, but we start with a handover check: we look at the code, the updates and the backups and draw up a record of what we received. Sometimes it is more honest to recommend a rebuild than to prop up something falling apart.

We will take the site into support

Send the address and write what needs doing regularly. We will run a handover check and propose an hours package.
