Labelled cables are the most underrated thing in a server room. Half an hour of work at installation saves hours at every later outage. Without labels an engineer pulls the leads one by one and watches what goes dark - during working hours that is an expensive pastime.

Questions and answers

You can, provided air reaches it and the temperature stays below twenty-eight degrees. A sealed cubbyhole with no ventilation turns into an oven in summer, and the equipment starts shutting itself down on exactly the hottest days.

With ten ports you can manage without. Beyond that, the cables from the workstations run straight into the switch, and any staff move turns into rewiring. A panel separates the permanent part from the changeable one.

Yes. Without it static and interference hit the equipment ports, and if there is an electrical fault the cabinet frame can become live. It is also a safety requirement, not a wish of the engineers.
