Mobile development

An app is worth installing where people turn to it constantly and phone capabilities are needed: the camera, location, push messages, work on the road with no network. If an ordinary site solves the task, the app simply will not be installed.

What the work includes

The key decision is taken right at the start: one codebase for both systems or two separate ones. Cost, timeline and the ceiling of what is possible all follow from it.

Discuss the scope

Approach

Shared code is faster and cheaper; separate code gives more capability and a smoother interface.

Design

Scenarios, mock-ups and styling to the rules of each system, and those differ noticeably.

Development

The app itself plus a server part if the data has to be stored somewhere.

Offline work

Data is stored on the device and sent on once a network appears. For field staff this is an essential property.

Notifications

Messaging split by groups, so the app does not turn into a source of irritation.

Publishing

Store page design, descriptions, screenshots and passing review.

How it goes

The first version is ready no sooner than three months, and to that add store review time - from several days.

01

Scenarios

Who will open the app, why and how often. From that it becomes clear whether it is needed at all.

02

Mock-ups

Screens and transitions styled to the rules of both systems.

03

Development

In cycles, with interim builds for testing on real devices.

04

Release

We create publisher accounts, upload the build, pass moderation and agree an update schedule.

An app lives only while it is being updated. New versions of the mobile systems come out every year, and after eighteen months without updates the app starts to misbehave, after which the store delists it. Regular support is not an optional extra but a compulsory budget line.

Questions and answers

Shared code costs around a third less and covers most business tasks: catalogues, client portals, request intake. Separate development is needed for complex graphics, heavy camera work and wherever smoothness is critical.

Often it is enough, and that is the option we check first. Installing one is worth it when people turn to it constantly and need to receive messages, work offline or use the capabilities of the phone itself.

In your company name, and this must be settled before publication. An app released from a contractor account stays with them when you part, together with the whole installed user base.

Let us discuss the app

Write who will use it and how often. We will say honestly whether an app is needed or a site will do.
